Jamie was brilliant, you can tell he is a real fan and made the experience what it was. We enjoyed our first tour but this was another experience with Jamie. The staff outside were friendly enough. We arrived early and were directed towards the café while we waited. Eventually, we were given three tablets for the audio tour. One didn't have any headphones, while the other two just felt clunky and awkward to use. I'm sure the company that sold Liverpool these audio systems probably raved about how much the club would save in staff costs. The reality, though, is that handing visitors a device before they've even properly started the experience creates a pretty poor first impression. We already spend far too much of our lives looking at screens — when you're paying to take your kids somewhere for an experience, the last thing you want is to be handed another device. We reached the top level and, unfortunately, the atmosphere just seemed to disappear. It's a big, wide-open space and there wasn't really any clear direction about where you were supposed to go. There were random video screens dotted around showing footage of Liverpool that, let's be honest, most football fans have probably already seen countless times on YouTube. Some of the staff inside were friendly and helpful. Others appeared distracted or agitated, which didn't exactly add to the experience. We were told that we could enjoy the tour at our own pace. Less than five minutes after arriving at the top and taking in the view over Anfield, we were told we needed to move on because the next tour was coming through. The changing rooms and pitchside areas were good to see, and there was one older gentleman working on pitch security who really stood out. He was incredibly friendly, chatting to people and making everyone he came across feel welcome. Honestly, if he had been working as a tour guide, the whole experience would have been outstanding. And that's probably the biggest disappointment for me. Anfield has an incredible history, and there is so much potential to make the tour genuinely memorable, even for someone who isn't a Liverpool supporter. But instead, it felt a little empty and impersonal. At times, it gave the impression that they simply couldn't be bothered. Maybe I'm being harsh, but when you're paying good money and bringing your kids along, you expect more than being given a tablet and pointed towards a few screens. I'll definitely return to Anfield for a match, because that's a completely different experience. The stadium itself is iconic. The tour, unfortunately, left me underwhelmed.
