A Landmark Match-Day Experience in Sunderland

Stadium of Light is more than a football ground; it is a defining Sunderland landmark on the banks of the River Wear. Located in Monkwearmouth and within easy walking distance of the station, the stadium is ideally placed for a full day out. Visitors can enjoy the surrounding riverside, harbour and coastline before settling in for the main event, making the journey as memorable as the match itself.

On match days, the venue is known for its welcoming match-day atmosphere. Friendly supporters, helpful staff, reasonably priced food and drink, and straightforward access create a comfortable experience for both lifelong fans and first-time visitors. The stand names and references to the former Roker Park ground add character throughout the stadium, while the energy inside rises noticeably when Sunderland takes to the pitch.

The Stadium of Light also offers memorable hospitality for milestone occasions. Founders ticket packages provide access through the Founders Bar, excellent seats close to the dugout and the chance to enjoy a more personal pre-match experience. One particularly special visit included an introduction to Sunderland legend Micky Horswill, helping turn a birthday celebration into a lasting football memory.

With plentiful access for wheelchair users and a reputation that appeals to home and away supporters alike, this is a versatile event venue for football, hospitality and major occasions. Whether you are planning your first visit, following Sunderland on an away day or looking for an atmospheric place to experience live sport, Stadium of Light delivers a distinctly local welcome and an unforgettable sense of occasion.

Food awful the fans all touch eachother which is highly inappropriate they the stadium looks like a bombsite just a small town though and can’t expect much from a small club but overall it was a nice game into the next round of the cup as Newcastle stormed them and won 3-0 UTM
