So, it's a very special place. When passion, love, and a keen eye for detail come together, you have Tullus Lotrek. From the hospitality, which is carried out to perfection, to the dishes where every sauce is so delicious you'll want to order two or three times over. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit ; )
You've ruined our lives…
(Please read to the end)
Eating at a Michelin-starred restaurant doesn't really fit our lifestyle or our budget. And yet, inspired and thrilled by the podcast, we reserved a table for our Berlin vacation.
Full of anticipation, we cycled to Fichtestraße and, since we were 20 minutes early, walked up and down the street.
Then the moment finally arrived:
As the weather was pleasant, we sat on the terrace and were immediately greeted very warmly and in the most pleasantly unpretentious way. After a refreshing hand towel and a glass of champagne as an aperitif, the first amuse-bouches arrived. And what can I say? From the first bite to the last, the meal was something I've never experienced before and will never forget. Yes, I've eaten many wonderfully executed dishes in a wide variety of restaurants, but what transpired on my palate and tongue during those four hours at Tulus Lotrek is, quite frankly, beyond words. Since I'd never tasted anything like it before, I simply lack the vocabulary to describe it. It's something you have to experience. And "experience" is the key word. It wasn't just a dinner. It was a four-hour, eight-course experience! The service was incredibly smooth, from refilling the water to serving each course with accompanying explanations—all without the need for formal culinary training or years of experience in Michelin-starred restaurants. It was pure, unpretentious ease. It was almost comforting that a few drops occasionally spilled during the enthusiastic refills.
And the sommelier—we unfortunately forgot to ask his name, but he's from Lindau :)—did an outstanding job. If you don't mention Michelin-starred cuisine, you also don't mention wine pairing. In other words, we were quite inexperienced in that area. But he handled it so effortlessly that we quickly felt comfortable. And the wine pairings for the courses were simply out of this world… Sparkling sake with a cocktail served on a plate of cucumber, rum, and lime? A match made in heaven.
Perhaps a few words about the food: For those who feel at home in Michelin-starred restaurants, it might be old hat – but for us, the combination of textures, mouthfeel, flavor combinations, imagination and creativity in the creation of the courses, and last but not least, the level of craftsmanship with which everything was brought to life, made for an unforgettable evening. How many dimensions can food have? Apparently, all of them! Which unfortunately brings me to my criticism – I think you've spoiled us and our palates a little… I'm afraid the only option is that this wasn't our last visit to Tulus Lotrek. Well… :D Finally, a thought for you, in case you're like us and have a hankering to try Michelin-starred cuisine, but are a little intimidated by it. I can't imagine a better place for a "first time" than Tulus.
If I could give it 17 stars, I would!
