CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TRAVEL PLANNING

A Smarter Way to Plan a European Football Trip

A Champions League trip combines elite clubs, midweek fixtures and cross-border travel. The draw, final kickoff, home venue, ticket eligibility and late-night return route should all be checked together before booking.

The league phase contains 36 clubs, with each team playing eight matches against eight different opponents. For 2026–27, the league-phase draw is scheduled for 27 August 2026, so avoid treating a possible matchup as confirmed before UEFA publishes the draw.

London and Madrid offer several participating clubs, while Milan, Manchester, Lisbon and other major hubs can support multi-match or multi-city itineraries. Cross-border rail and short-haul flights can look simple on a map, but late kickoffs, airport transfers and the next morning’s departure often determine whether a route is realistic.

The first eight teams in the league table advance directly to the round of 16. Teams placed ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs, while the rest are eliminated. This structure makes January league-phase fixtures and February play-offs important travel windows.

Use official club or authorised ticket channels. Away allocations are controlled through the participating clubs, and high-demand fixtures may require membership or purchase history. Keep transport and accommodation flexible until the fixture, venue and kickoff are secure.

HOW WE RESEARCH
Independent Champions League Football Travel Research

Our guides combine official UEFA and club information with stadium access, local transport and independent destination research across Europe.

We focus on the decisions football travellers face: the confirmed opponent and home venue, authorised ticket routes, cross-border travel, suitable neighbourhoods and the return journey after a late kickoff.

Draws, fixtures, kickoff times, venues and ticket rules can change. Verify final details with UEFA, the relevant club, venue and transport operator before making non-refundable bookings.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TRAVEL FAQ

Questions Before You Book

Quick answers to common European football travel decisions.

Thirty-six teams play in one league table. Each club plays eight matches against eight different opponents, four at home and four away. The top eight advance directly to the round of 16; teams placed ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs.
The league-phase draw is scheduled for 27 August 2026. UEFA and the clubs then publish the detailed fixture schedule. Avoid booking around a possible opponent before the official draw and schedule are confirmed.
Start with the participating club’s official ticket office or an explicitly authorised partner. Membership, purchase history or identity checks may apply, especially for high-demand fixtures. Away tickets are normally handled through the visiting club.
Sometimes. A city with multiple participating clubs or a short rail or flight connection may make this possible, but matches are spread across Tuesday, Wednesday and occasionally Thursday in the opening matchweek. Confirm kickoff times and the full post-match route first.
The 2026–27 final is scheduled for Saturday 5 June 2027 at Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. Final tickets, fan zones and access arrangements should be checked through UEFA’s official channels.
Yes. Dates and kickoff times remain subject to confirmation, and a club may use an alternate UEFA-approved stadium. Keep transport and hotels flexible until the club and UEFA confirm the fixture and venue.
