Osteria del Sole is one of the most distinctive places to enjoy an authentic wine bar experience in Bologna. Tucked away on Vicolo Ranocchi, just steps from Piazza Maggiore, this old-school spot is easy to miss from the outside — but that’s part of its appeal. Inside, you’ll find a relaxed, communal setting where locals and visitors share tables, sip generous pours, and settle into the easygoing rhythm of the city.
What makes this place stand out is its refreshingly simple concept: come for the wine, bring your own food, and stay for the atmosphere. Many guests love pairing a bottle with snacks from nearby delis or dishes picked up around the corner, creating a laid-back, personal dining experience that feels wonderfully local. The selection includes local wine, beer, and spritz, and the friendly service keeps the mood warm and unpretentious. With its characterful setting and lively mix of people, Osteria del Sole captures the spirit of historic Bologna in the most genuine way — simple, social, and full of charm.

in the last weekEnjoyed visiting the oldest wine bar in Bologna. Great wine 🍷 highly recommend the lambrusco which was fantastic quality. The place itself was lovely and had a nice atmosphere. So much history in the place and right in the heart of Bologna. Nice mix of locals and staff were very friendly. Highly recommend.

in the last weekA lively Osteria in the heart of Bologna. We had heard to bring your own food and be ready to share and sit at communal tables. First off the wine was good and very reasonably priced. Service was excellent. We sat at a large table with one other couple and 6 people who spoke English right across from us. No one wanted to talk or share our bounty from Simoni Salumeria that we had brought to share. I guess they didn’t get the same message as we did. The other couple at our table were from Columbia and my wife speaks Spanish. They spent the entire time glued to their cellphones. What could have been a great night ended with a meh. No fault of the Osteria of course. As always your mileage will vary.
