I passed Wenkers in the morning and thought it might be a little too touristy. I’m very glad I came back.
After a long day walking around Dortmund and taking photos, I stopped for a Wenkers Urtrüb and the pulled pork fries. The beer was smooth and easy to drink, and the fries were one of the best things I’ve eaten in a casual place like this. They’re exactly what you want with a beer when you’re hungry but not looking for a formal dinner.
Sitting outside on the Alter Markt on a beautiful fall day made it even better. The history of the place is interesting, but the food and beer are what made me want to tell people about it. If you’re in Dortmund, give Wenkers a try. I’d happily come back.
Today I visited this café and ordered an espresso. I ordered it as usual, but it was far too weak, almost like water. I asked for a replacement, as an espresso is supposed to be convincing because of its intensity.
The server came back and gave me the cup after the replacement without a "please" or an apology for the mistake—as if she were annoyed that I had asked for a change. Anyone who drinks espresso regularly knows that it's undrinkable if it's too weak. The photo also shows that there was no crema, a clear sign of a weak espresso.
I couldn't drink it, but I paid anyway and left.
It's not about the €2.20, but about the service and the taste, which were simply not up to par for me. I hope you accept my feedback and don't delete it, as most shop owners unfortunately do.
That was my experience.
I tried to eat a mushroom schnitzel with sides there. The schnitzel was incredibly dry, the mushroom sauce was from a packet and a can. The fries were incredibly soggy. I will never set foot in that place again. The toilets were very dirty and not clean.
