Unfortunately, Lokmam has lost much of its luster in recent years. This is probably due to the social media hype and the mass-market approach. The food still tastes good, but it's no longer the pinnacle of Turkish dining or the go-to spot. Portions have gotten smaller. It's clear that prices have risen, but you're getting less for your money these days. The mixed grill platter no longer includes small lahmacuns (which used to be standard and still is everywhere else) and there's less meat. When you pay over €80 for a mixed grill, you expect more. Instead, they try to disguise the small portions with lots of rice and bulgur. You also only get two small "balloon breads" that are quickly eaten.
Furthermore, even with a reservation, there's no guarantee of getting a table right away. You still have to wait, especially on weekend evenings. Groups of the same size but without reservations are sometimes simply given priority if you don't remind the staff about your reservation. This shouldn't happen. If the service were based on the level of 6-7 years ago, a visit to Lokmam would be significantly better.
We had a reservation for 19 people for 7:30 pm and were seated after about 15 minutes. For a Saturday evening and such a large group, that was perfectly acceptable.
We were served complimentary appetizers and bread. The service was truly excellent. Even though we were a large group, nothing was forgotten, we could easily reorder drinks, and the food arrived very quickly.
The food itself was delicious, the portions were generous, and the prices were very fair. The birthday person even received a complimentary dessert, which was a lovely surprise.
Special praise goes to our waiter, Mehmet! He took excellent care of us all evening and did a fantastic job managing 19 people. Hats off to him!
If we come to Hamburg again as a group, we would definitely go to Lokmam again.
