Accent Inns Burnaby

We’ve stayed here many times in the past and have loved the location and the front desk staff is always lovely. However, we had booked another stay for earlier this month. Unfortunately, the room reeked of what could only be explained as cigarette smoke mixed with very strong perfume. It didn’t smell as if anyone had smoked in the room, just that a heavy smoker had stayed there. We entered the room 3 separate times and were developing headaches from the smell. We also didn’t feel comfortable bringing our dog into the suite when we were getting headaches ourselves. Front desk recommended opening windows but the windows in the room didn’t open. We asked if we could be switched to another room whether it be an upgrade or downgrade and that we would be happy to pay the difference. We were told they were completely sold out for the next 3 days. We cancelled the stay within 15-20 minutes of arrival and scrambled for somewhere else to stay. We ended up being charged for one night “last minute cancellation”. We called in and were told it’s up to the manager’s discretion if they would provide a refund as the cancellation was through no fault of our own or even just reduce the charge. Front desk staff was nice each time we had to call but manager never contacted us back and there was a huge lack of communication. Did not receive a refund or reduction in the cost. We were told staff went into the room later and there was no smell but during the time we were at the hotel, no staff members entered the room. There was availability at the Hilton Metrotown starting the next night. It was a great stay and will be our new hotel recommendation.
