A Tasty Family Stop on ‘t Zand

Bistro Zand 23 is a welcoming place to settle in for a satisfying meal in the heart of Bruges. Located on ‘t Zand, this relaxed restaurant suits families, couples, and visitors looking for a convenient lunch or dinner after exploring the city. Guests often appreciate the efficient, friendly service and the easygoing atmosphere, while outdoor seating offers a pleasant option when the weather is right.

The menu focuses on generous, familiar dishes with a distinctly Belgian character. The house specialty is the signature croquettes, including shrimp and Ganda Ham versions with a delicate, crisp coating and a warm, savory filling. They are a strong choice for sharing or enjoying as a starter, and the croquette-themed murals add a memorable touch to the bistro’s identity.

For a classic main course, the mussels and fries stand out for their deep, satisfying flavor, while the beef stew with fries delivers the hearty comfort many visitors hope to find in Bruges. Portions are well suited to an unhurried meal, and the menu has enough familiar choices to make family-friendly dining straightforward for groups with different tastes.

With hundreds of diners choosing it over time, Bistro Zand 23 has earned a place on the route for travelers passing through Bruges as well as locals seeking a dependable meal near the city center. Whether you stop for a quick lunch, share a plate of croquettes, or sit down for mussels and fries, it is a practical and flavorful address for Belgian comfort food.

Delicious food. Great service. Cozy terrace.

A menu for 35 euros is nice, of course; the shrimp croquettes are tasty, the mussels very flavorful, but the apple pie for dessert is terrible. The most striking thing here is the uninterested service. I understand that Bruges is a massive tourist trap, but people come here to work too and won't settle for lazy and uninterested staff.

Grimy interior. Lots of cobwebs. Service reasonable, though dirty nails, and serving plates immediately after petting a dog extensively. Food was greasy and substandard. My advice is to look elsewhere.

Better than the reviews suggest. We probably got lucky with a very professional server. Fair portions and the carbonra was good, but it didn't have much to do with the original recipe.
