ETXANOBE brings an elevated take on Basque cuisine to Bilbao, blending tradition with creative technique in a setting that feels polished from start to finish. Tucked into Abando, this fine dining restaurant is known for its choreographed service, thoughtful pacing, and dishes that showcase premium ingredients with real precision. Guests consistently praise the chef-led experience, from the warm table-side attention to the menu’s inventive twists on regional flavours.
Expect plates that feel both rooted and imaginative, such as scallops with bright citrus notes, rice with octopus, hake with seaweed, and rich desserts like hazelnut soufflé. The wine selection is another highlight, making it an easy choice for a special night out. Diners also appreciate the kitchen’s care with dietary needs, along with the feeling that every course has been carefully considered. For travellers and locals alike, ETXANOBE is a standout restaurant in Bilbao for anyone seeking a memorable, high-level meal.

in the last weekFirst, the only negative point: The restaurant makes the visit unnecessarily complicated for its guests – and in several ways. There's the obvious name change that wasn't consistently implemented (even on the website), the sometimes unclear distinction between Atelier and the more "regular" La Despensa, and the fact that both restaurants are lumped together on TripAdvisor and Google Maps. The menus also overlap in some places, but then again, they don't. The websites are generally confusing, and the menu layout, especially with its special options (wine pairing, vintage wine pairing, cheese, etc.), is cluttered. All of this makes it a bit more complicated for first-time visitors. But once you get past this hurdle, the overall experience is excellent. The quality and quantity of the food, the ambiance, the service. Could all of this be improved? Of course. Is this nitpicking? Absolutely. However, when I pay €166 for the "Bilbao Menu" for two adults, featuring five excellent courses plus dessert, unlimited bread service, a bottle of wine, two liters of water, and several pieces of carrot cake before tip, any comparison with international Michelin-starred restaurants is unfair. The value for money here is outstanding, and that deserves special praise, as does the music selection. We highly recommend it.
