The Exchange Restaurant offers a distinctive California restaurant experience in Downtown Los Angeles, with a menu and atmosphere that feel a little more creative than your standard lunch spot. On W 8th St, this stylish dining room gets attention for dishes like the kale salad, lamb pita, and thoughtfully paired wines that make lunch feel polished without being too formal. Guests also mention the generous plating, balanced flavors, and a space that feels bigger than expected, with design touches inspired by Asian and Middle Eastern influences.
The food here is especially appealing if you like fresh ingredients and modern flavor combinations. The lamb pita is described as rich but not heavy, the kale salad lands as both healthy and satisfying, and even the side salad gets praise for being well dressed and full of flavor. Service is another strength, with staff who are friendly, helpful, and happy to guide you through wine choices or menu picks. It’s the kind of place that works well for a casual business lunch, a relaxed midday meal, or an easy dinner when you want something a little different.
With steady praise from over 300 guests, The Exchange Restaurant stands out as a Downtown LA restaurant worth knowing. For fresh plates, good wine, and a comfortable setting, it’s a smart choice in the city center.

3 months agoReally crushed they don't offer dinnertime service any more! We absolutely loved the menu and the ambiance. The new 7am to noon hours make absolutely no sense for the type of cuisine they offer (and why stop right at lunchtime, when more people would be looking to eat)? They could have improved their dinner attendance simply by reducing wait time/improving service just a bit and expanding the drink menu from its sparse offerings. It's an enormous shame, all around!

5 months agoFor starters, they have the most incredible mocktail I've ever had with orange and cranberry. It was like a mouth explosion. I'm vegan and they have plenty of vegan options. I had the Japanese sweet potato dish and the Mezze Platter. Yum! Plus a great vibe at night: cozy and warm.

5 months agoWhat stood out the most was the consistency in both service and food quality. Everything arrived on time, hot, and exactly as expected. The pricing is very reasonable considering the quality you receive. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. I will definitely be coming back again!
