Arrogant service and outrageous rip-off – Absolutely not recommended
I am deeply disappointed with the service at the AC Hotel Mainz. Since I needed an early check-in today, I thankfully called the hotel from my en route before finalizing the booking. What I then experienced on the phone is an absolute disgrace for a hotel in the Marriott chain.
I encountered an extremely unfriendly and condescending employee at reception. Although I am a registered Marriott Bonvoy member, I was refused any assistance whatsoever. When I directly asked if the cleaning team could perhaps prioritize my room as soon as their shift began (which, at 8:00 a.m., should be happening soon anyway in a hotel of an international chain), the woman showed no willingness to help. Instead, I was told in an imperious tone that an early check-in would cost a flat fee of €60 extra.
Don't get me wrong: I would have been perfectly willing to pay a reasonable surcharge. But €60 for a room that could be made ready with minimal goodwill from the staff is pure extortion and a complete lack of customer service.
Because of this outrageous behavior, I immediately decided against the AC Hotel Mainz and called the Courtyard Wiesbaden instead. There, the service was absolutely first-class from the very first moment—warm and customer-oriented—so I was able to check into my room without any problems.
The AC Hotel Mainz will definitely never see me as a guest again. Anyone who treats their customers so condescendingly doesn't deserve to succeed. A formal complaint to Marriott headquarters is already on its way. Never again!
A very nice hotel right next to the main train station in Mainz. The staff is incredibly attentive and greets me by name as I walk by. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The breakfast buffet is good.
