House Of ‘Que at the American Dream brings laid-back barbecue dining to East Rutherford, right inside the bustling American Dream complex. Known for quick seating, friendly service, and a relaxed vibe, this sports bar and restaurant is a solid pick when you want a no-fuss meal in the middle of a busy shopping day. Guests often mention that the team is “very nice and chill,” with orders handled accurately and food arriving fast, making it especially convenient for families and groups who don’t want to wait around. The menu leans into classic casual BBQ fare—comforting, familiar, and served in portions that feel fair for the price. It’s the kind of place that works well for a quick lunch, an easy dinner stop, or a casual break between activities at the mall. While the atmosphere is simple rather than upscale, that’s part of the appeal: you know exactly what you’re getting, and it’s delivered in a straightforward, approachable way. If you’re looking for a casual dining spot in East Rutherford with a dependable pace, generous value, and an easygoing setting, House Of ‘Que is worth keeping on your list.
One reviewer appreciated the strong drinks, noting that the old-fashioned had more alcohol than expected, providing more value for the price.
Multiple reviewers noted that the food lacked flavor and quality, with complaints about tough and dry ribs, sausage, and cornbread, as well as a lack of smoke flavor in the brisket.
Several reviews highlighted issues with customer service, including inattentive servers, dismissive management, and a server failing to record an order, leading to long wait times and a lack of resolution.
Customers expressed dissatisfaction with high prices, such as a $9 draft beer and a $50 per person minimum charge during events, which were viewed as excessive and unfair.
Reviewers reported rude behavior from staff, particularly during busy times, and noted that the venue seemed understaffed, leading to long waits and poor customer interactions.

a week agoBeen here a few times already and it’s always great. Today we went for my fiancés birthday, he specifically wanted to come here for their ribs, he also loves their potato salad & deviled eggs. Our server was awesome and made his birthday super special. I didn’t get his name, but he’s a taller gentleman with the long dark hair tied back. The ladies at the host stand were also very lovely & welcoming. Awesome experience and will be back!

2 weeks agoWhen I received my food, it was burnt. When the waitress saw, she immediately took it back to the kitchen to have them remake it for me. Incredible service.

2 weeks agoServer Shea is Great!!....Brisket, Ribs mac & cheese & corn pudding are trash. Dry and tastes old. Cole slaw was good so was the potato salad. Mind you this was a Friday at 6pm. I should've went to yard house instead.. it's really tough to have an average score of 3.1.... and you can totally see why... I def won't return

3 weeks agoGreat lighting and atmosphere. The American-style food was delightful. The pork ribs looked plentiful, but they were so delicious that we finished them off quickly. The service was excellent. Worth eating here after skiing.

4 weeks agoUpon entering, my partner and I were greeted by a friendly host, which set a positive tone. Unfortunately, everything after that fell flat. We were seated in the bar area, where it took nine minutes to be acknowledged. During that time, the bartender chose to chat with his friends rather than address us. When we finally placed our order, a beer, a margarita, and nachos totaling about $60, the service continued to decline. During the shift change, the bartender didn’t bother to inform us, leaving us confused about who was responsible for our table. The overall experience felt unprofessional, inattentive, and mediocre. Based on this visit, I do not recommend this location.
