The Mosser Hotel

I hate to give them a 2-star review overall because the staff were actually nice and friendly. But the fact is that they are portraying themselves to be a hotel, and as such, they are really barely a 2-star hotel. They are more like a Youth Hostel. The worst thing is that their website is a complete bait and switch. They purposely have not changed the website to reflect the reality of today, and they show a nice restaurant on the bottom floor where you can go and have breakfast in the morning. Yeah, right...The restaurant is now separate from the hotel and not only do they not serve anything in the hotel besides some bad coffee with no available real cream, the room doesn't have a fridge, so you can't keep something there for yourself if you wanted to. And let's' talk about the room. It's smaller than our walk-in closet at home. The pictures of the roms on the website are taken with a wide angle camera, pressed up against the corners of the room to make things look bigger than they are. I'm not kidding you, the room was no bigger than a decent sized walk-in closet. And the beds were the size of kids beds, with a horrible mattress. I could feel the springs. Not good at all. Not something you wake up refreshed on. And as I mentioned, there is no fridge. On top of that, they don't tell you this on the website, and I never thought you'd have to ask about it in the USA, but there is no air conditioner either! And no airflow unless you open the dirty window and the window in the shower. So, with a 90 degree humid day, it was really lovely to sleep in that room. Luckily there was at least a ceiling fan to help out a little. And the shower was nice...so there is that... Anyway, my point is, this place is cheaper than the nearby hotels for a reason. The location is great though. So, if you don't mind putting up with the "Youth Hostel" standards, then this so-called hotel is for you.... Oh, I forgot to mention that while my wife and I were in the lobby, a mouse ran across the room....Nice....

I booked this hotel bcoz it was “cheap”. The location is excellent, but any positive note about this hotel ends there. I didn’t see any pics in any reviews, so I’m posting here since. So plz know what you’re getting into before booking the hotel, bcoz it may work for some people. Rooms were tiny, consisting of barely a bed, very little space just to put your luggage and a sink. That’s it, no space to walk in there other than getting on to your bed. I wouldn’t have minded the space if the bed and the room is clean, but that bed and mattress felt like it’s barely cleaned from the bed bugs. The whole time I was sleeping, I was trying to avoid skin contact with any bedding. Carpet, I didn’t want to put my feet on, tried to use slippers as much as I can. No A.C although I’m not sure if this expected for an old building in SF downtown. Restrooms are shared. Toilet and shower are separate. First time I used the toilet, although it was clean, the stinking smell is so much I hardly could breathe in there, most likely someone recently used it and bcoz of the tiny space and hardly any ventilator, smell just stayed there. 2nd time I used it, it was okay. Shower is also okay. But again, all these are shared. For 3 days I tried my best to stay there coming late nights and getting out early in the nothing at 7am, but after that I couldn’t stay any further and checked out although I paid for 8 days. Lady at check out was saying it’s mostly for travelers who just put luggage there and use it just for sleep. I see lot of students and very young folks checking in, who are used to dorms and hostels and want to save some money. But for a middle aged young working professional like me, it’s just too much.

It's good for what it is. It's a low price hotel in a great location. Just keep in mind this is a historic building, so the rooms are small. This seems to be a little bit of a hostel style hotel. The regular rooms do not have bathrooms, you will have to pay extra for one with one in room! Rooms are very bare bones but they serve their purpose.

Not bad, very aesthetically pleasing compared to your typical hotel. A little old, but that's part of the charm I think. My only main concern was that the walls and doors had dirt on them that could have easily been wiped, or washed. So I think it's worth it to have a deeper clean. Aside from that the walls were also thin as I could hear all of the environment around me. Overall, not bad experience and aesthetic.
